This house is the fulfillment of a dream for an extraordinary couple of travelers and their child, who, after years of living out of a suitcase, yearned to create their own safe haven. They were looking for a place that was luxurious and comfortable, yet incredibly cozy—a place where they could finally drop anchor and truly feel at home. The plot, located in Lower Silesia, with a breathtaking view of the mountains and surrounded by ancient trees, became the perfect setting for this vision. We wanted the building to be a family sanctuary for them, one that reflects their passion for discovering the world—where the ever-changing scenery outside the windows, the sun journeying across the sky, and the mountain landscape provide a living backdrop for their life together. Thus, our Eco Residence was born—a forest base that offers longed-for stability and comfort without taking away the sense of freedom and constant contact with nature.


Project Idea and Functional Layout

Designing in such a unique location required a thoughtful response to the spatial conditions. The plot is situated within a protected landscape area, and an additional challenge was the mandatory building line, set close to the road. Despite having a vast amount of land, the investors did not want to place their home at the very front. Fragmenting the mass into a house and a garage connected by a roofed porch allowed us to cleverly shift the main living area deeper into the plot, protecting the old trees and bringing the building directly into the heart of the forest.

The soul of the ground floor is an open-plan living area combining the lounge, dining room, and kitchen, where a fireplace surrounded by massive glazings on the gable wall serves as the central point. While the fire burns in the warm, safe interior, one can admire through the glass the romantic sunrises emerging from behind the mountains. We also placed a guest bedroom on the ground floor, which will serve future visitors as part of an agrotourism venture. The sense of high comfort is enhanced by a unique relaxation zone—directly from the bathroom connected to a sauna, you step out into a stunning conservatory with a view of the forest.

On the upper floor, we designed a spectacular opening (void) overlooking the living room, along with three bedrooms, each connected to walk-in closets and a shared bathroom. Thanks to large internal glazings in two of the upstairs bedrooms, the living space below is visible, and through it—the mountain landscape stretching out on the horizon. This makes the house almost "guide" the residents through the views, offering contact with nature from every corner of the interior.


Ecological and Regenerative Solutions

The house and garage are just the first stage of a larger agrotourism investment, where deep ecology and permaculture reign supreme. Following our proprietary "ecozoning" method, we prepared a masterplan for the entire site, which will be implemented successively. This is not just a house; it is the beginning of an entire ecosystem—the plan includes the construction of natural rainwater retention ponds, additional guest cottages, and tiny houses. A forest village will be created here, featuring an apiary, flower meadows, forest crops, and garden beds, as well as unique relaxation zones for tourists, seamlessly merged with the woods. Ecological solutions were also applied in the clever planning of the house's mass, its exposure, and the harvesting of passive solar gains. We oriented the main glazings to the East—this way, the house wakes up with the first rays of the morning sun, while in the afternoon, when the heat can become oppressive, the interior remains naturally cool and comfortable. On the southern side, the house is shielded by a covered terrace and the conservatory, which acts as a thermal buffer: in winter, it passively heats the interior, and in summer, it protects the facade from excessive sunlight.


Technology and Natural Materials

In the spirit of deep ecology, which defines every one of our projects, we focused on a conscious balance between naturalness and safety. For the walls, we used a wood fiber system, which, thanks to its high thermal inertia, ensures a stable temperature and a healthy microclimate. For the roof structure, we provided stone wool insulation, which serves as a non-flammable protective shield, providing residents with the highest level of fire safety and excellent acoustic insulation. We softened the rawness of this modern form with the warmth of natural finishes—real wood and healthy clay and lime plasters. These materials create a breathable, healthy microclimate indoors. Huge glazings blur the line between the luxurious interior and the wild forest, making the surrounding nature a natural, ever-changing extension of the living room.


Resource Management and Installations

We designed the building to manage energy and water rationally and modernly. The roof shape was precisely adapted for the optimal performance of a photovoltaic installation. The primary heating source is a heat pump working with an innovative combined tank. It simultaneously handles central heating and domestic hot water preparation, which, when combined with photovoltaics, results in maximum efficiency and minimal energy loss.

As an alternative, independent heat source, we used a fireplace with a water jacket connected directly to a buffer tank—the perfect solution for winter evenings, providing a sense of energy independence. Excellent air quality in the building is ensured by energy-efficient mechanical ventilation based on a system of wall-mounted heat recovery units (decentralized HRV), allowing for comfort without the need for extensive ductwork.


Designing places that fit so respectfully into the forest landscape and honor people's stories is a pure passion for us. This Eco Residence is proof that modern, luxury architecture can be fully natural, environmentally friendly, and integrated with a permaculture masterplan.
